Orange Sky launches in Christchurch
We’re so excited that Orange Sky have launched their services in Christchurch. Orange Sky provides free laundry, warm showers and genuine conversation to people experiencing homelessness. Their hybrid laundry and shower van will be hitting the streets of Christchurch every week to bring these essential services to people who need them.
Among their regular weekly shifts, Orange Sky will be on site at The Commons on Wednesdays supporting our “For the Culture” project. For three hours every week the gathering brings together Housing First Kaewa and those experiencing homelessness in a safe place where kai is shared, jam sessions are run and the mobile library van is available. Most importantly it’s a place for people to connect and share their stories.
Our Community Development worker Jono Kitt spoke at the launch event about the difference a hot shower and conversation can make for someone sleeping rough.
"Having Orange Sky on-site provides another link in the support network for our most vulnerable community members."
